UPCASE – Method for self-assessing the capability of the usability process in small organizations
One of the best ways for an organization to start a software process improvement program is performing a process assessment. These assessments are typically performed by external assessors. Yet, an alternative for companies seeking for lighter assessments, especially small organizations, are self-assessments that can be carried out by the organization itself to assess the capability of its own process.
With this objective, UPCASE has been developed. UPCASE is a method for self-assessing the capability of the usability process in small organizations. It is composed of a Process reference model (PRM), measurement framework and Process assessment model (PAM). UPCASE has been developed based on ISO/IEC 29110-3, ISO 15504-4 and ISO/IEC 18529.
The purpose of the assessment process is to systematically guide the process assessment activities. Based on ISO/IEC 29110-3, the UPCASE assessment process is composed by four phases.
The realization of an UPCASE assessment is supported by an online tool.
